Opening of BR Ambedkar govt college: Girls from Boota Mandi on hunger strike
JALANDHAR: Girls from Boota Mandi, Khurla Kingra and adjoining areas have been demanding opening of a college in their area. To get their demand fulfilled, they have been observing a hunger strike for the past 100 days. Earlier, they were sitting at the site where the college was supposed to come up. The girls have been sitting at BR Ambedkar Chowk for the past six days. They want a college to be opened in the name of BR Ambedkar at Boota Mandi. According to them, a college was initially promised in 1992 by the then Chief Minister, Beant Singh. They have been sitting on the strike under the banner of the Sarva Samaj Sangharsh Committee. Jagdish Disha , president of the committee, said after the announcement, Parkash Singh Badal promised to build a college in 1999 and thereafter, the same promise was repeated by Sukhbir Singh Badal in 2008.
